The Fertility Institute of Hawaii is one of only a few centers in the country to offer embryo donation. In Hawaii, we offer both directed (known) and anonymous embryo donation, including access to our donor embryo database.
Is Embryo Donation Right for You?
Embryo donation can be a good fit for patients and couples who:
- Have not had success with their own eggs, sperm, or embryos
- Would rather avoid the cost or physical demands of an egg retrieval or fresh donor cycle
- Are single parents by choice or part of the LGBTQIA+ community building a family without their own genetic material
- Feel a personal or ethical motivation toward giving existing embryos the chance to become a family, rather than creating new ones
Our Donor Embryo Database
The Fertility Institute of Hawaii has a database of anonymous donated embryos. This collection features embryos donated by patients who have completed their family-building journeys and are now willing to share their extra embryos with others. What’s the difference between directed (known) and anonymous embryo donation? With directed donation, the donor couple and recipient know each other’s identities. While FIH does not provide these arrangements in-house, patients are welcome to work with a friend or someone they know to facilitate a directed donation. With anonymous donation, we keep identities confidential.
Where do donated embryos come from? They come from individuals and couples who completed their family building via IVF and have since decided their family is complete and wish to donate their remaining embryos.
